AI 시대, 책임경영의 새로운 기준
안녕하십니까.
SEC(Sustainable Enterprise Evaluation Commission)를 찾아주신 여러분께 진심으로 감사드립니다.
오늘날 기업과 공공기관을 둘러싼 환경은 과거 어느 때보다 빠르게 변화하고 있습니다. 인공지능(AI), 디지털 전환, 기후변화 대응, 글로벌 공급망 재편, 사이버 보안, 인권, 윤리경영 등 새로운 시대의 변화는 조직의 운영 방식뿐 아니라 경쟁력을 평가하는 기준까지 근본적으로 바꾸고 있습니다.
이제 조직의 경쟁력은 단기적인 재무성과나 전통적인 ESG(Environmental, Social, Governance) 평가만으로는 충분히 설명될 수 없습니다. 지속가능한 성장 역량, 미래 경쟁력, 혁신역량, 장기 가치창출, 비재무 리스크 관리, 공공가치와 사회적 가치가 함께 작동할 때 비로소 조직의 진정한 경쟁력이 완성됩니다.
바로 이러한 시대적 변화가 SEC를 설립하게 된 배경입니다.
SEC의 존재 이유
SEC는 기존 ESG 평가를 대체하기 위해 설립된 기관이 아닙니다.
SEC는 ESG(Environmental, Social, Governance)의 기본 철학을 존중합니다. 그러나 오늘날 조직의 지속가능한 성장과 미래 경쟁력을 ESG만으로 모두 설명하기에는 분명한 한계가 있다는 점에도 주목했습니다.
미래 경쟁력은 어떻게 평가할 것인가.
혁신역량은 어떤 기준으로 측정할 것인가.
장기 가치창출 능력은 어떻게 객관적으로 평가할 것인가.
공공가치와 사회적 가치는 어떤 기준으로 평가할 것인가.
이러한 질문에 답하기 위해서는 ESG의 기본 철학을 존중하면서도 책임경영을 보다 종합적이고 미래지향적으로 평가할 수 있는 새로운 접근이 필요했습니다.
SEC는 이러한 시대적 요구에 대응하기 위하여 독자적인 연구를 통해 WF책임경영지수(WFSRI)를 개발하였습니다.
이를 기반으로 기업과 공공기관의 책임경영을 보다 객관적이고 체계적으로 평가하고 있으며, 지속가능한 성장과 미래 경쟁력 향상을 지원하고 있습니다.
이것이 기존 ESG 평가와 SEC 책임경영 평가가 지향하는 가장 큰 차별성입니다.
책임경영 평가의 가치
SEC는 평가를 단순히 순위를 매기기 위한 수단으로 생각하지 않습니다.
평가는 조직의 현재를 객관적으로 진단하고 미래의 성장 가능성과 개선 방향을 제시하는 과정이어야 합니다.
이를 위해 SEC는 ESG·WFSRI 평가분석센터를 운영하며 산업별 비교분석, 책임경영 프로파일, 비재무 리스크 분석, 장기 가치창출 역량 분석 등 다양한 연구와 분석 서비스를 제공하고 있습니다.
SEC는 책임경영이 지속가능한 성장과 사회적 신뢰를 실현하는 핵심 기반이라고 생각합니다.
책임경영은 조직의 경쟁력을 높일 뿐 아니라 투자자와 고객, 임직원, 지역사회 및 다양한 이해관계자의 신뢰를 축적하며 기업가치와 공공가치를 함께 높이는 기반이 됩니다.
공정성과 독립성
평가기관의 신뢰는 독립성과 공정성에서 시작됩니다.
SEC는 공정성(Fairness), 객관성(Objectivity), 독립성(Independence), 투명성(Transparency), 책임성(Accountability), 전문성(Professionalism), 데이터 신뢰성(Data Reliability)을 모든 평가 활동의 핵심 원칙으로 삼고 있습니다.
특히 SEC는 평가 결과의 객관성과 독립성을 확보하기 위하여 평가 대상 기관으로부터 평가 결과에 영향을 줄 수 있는 어떠한 경제적 지원도 받지 않는 경제적 독립성(Financial Independence)의 원칙을 철저히 준수하고 있습니다.
또한 사실확인(Factual Review), 이의신청(Appeal), 평가윤리(Evaluation Ethics), 이해상충 방지(Conflict of Interest Prevention) 절차를 통해 평가의 신뢰성과 투명성을 지속적으로 강화하고 있습니다.
미래를 위한 약속
기업과 공공기관을 둘러싼 환경은 앞으로도 계속 변화할 것입니다.
SEC 역시 변화하는 시대에 맞추어 책임경영 평가체계를 지속적으로 발전시켜 나갈 것입니다.
SEC는 평가를 위한 평가를 하지 않습니다.
SEC는 등급을 위한 등급을 만들지 않습니다.
SEC가 추구하는 것은 기업과 공공기관이 더 나은 미래를 준비할 수 있도록 지원하는 책임경영 평가입니다.
앞으로도 SEC는 독자적인 연구를 바탕으로 WF책임경영지수(WFSRI)를 지속적으로 발전시키고, 기업과 공공기관의 지속가능한 성장과 책임경영 수준 향상에 기여하겠습니다.
또한 객관성과 독립성, 전문성을 바탕으로 국제사회가 신뢰하는 책임경영 평가기관으로 성장해 나가겠습니다.

A New Standard for Responsible Management in the Age of AI
Greetings,
Welcome to the Sustainable Enterprise Evaluation Commission (SEC), and thank you for visiting our website.
Today, corporations and public institutions operate in an environment undergoing unprecedented transformation. Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital transformation, climate action, global supply chain restructuring, cybersecurity, human rights, and ethical governance are fundamentally reshaping not only the way organizations operate but also the standards by which their competitiveness is evaluated.
Organizational competitiveness can no longer be fully explained by short-term financial performance or conventional Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) assessments alone. Sustainable growth, future competitiveness, innovation capability, long-term value creation, non-financial risk management, public value, and social value have become essential elements of organizational excellence.
It was this profound transformation that led to the establishment of SEC.
Why SEC Exists
SEC was not established to replace conventional ESG evaluations.
SEC respects the fundamental philosophy of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). At the same time, we recognized that ESG alone can no longer fully explain an organization's sustainable growth and future competitiveness.
How should future competitiveness be evaluated?
How can innovation capability be measured objectively?
How should long-term value creation be assessed?
How should public value and social value be evaluated?
Answering these questions required a broader approach to Responsible Management while respecting the fundamental philosophy of ESG.
To respond to these structural changes, SEC developed the WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI) through its own independent research.
Based on WFSRI, SEC comprehensively evaluates the Responsible Management performance of corporations and public institutions while supporting sustainable growth and future competitiveness.
This represents the fundamental distinction between conventional ESG assessments and SEC's approach to Responsible Management evaluation.
The Value of Responsible Management Evaluation
SEC does not regard evaluation as a mechanism for ranking organizations.
Instead, evaluation should objectively identify an organization's current capabilities while providing meaningful guidance for future growth and continuous improvement.
To support this objective, SEC operates the ESG·WFSRI Evaluation & Analysis Center, providing industry benchmarking, Responsible Management Profiles, non-financial risk analysis, long-term value creation assessments, and a broad range of research and analytical services.
SEC believes that Responsible Management is the foundation of sustainable growth and lasting public trust.
Responsible Management strengthens organizational competitiveness while building confidence among investors, customers, employees, local communities, governments, and other stakeholders. Ultimately, it enhances both corporate value and public value.
Fairness and Independence
The credibility of any evaluation institution begins with independence and fairness.
SEC conducts every evaluation based on the principles of Fairness, Objectivity, Independence, Transparency, Accountability, Professionalism, and Data Reliability.
To safeguard impartiality, SEC strictly adheres to the principle of Financial Independence by accepting no financial support that could influence the objectivity or integrity of its evaluation activities.
SEC further strengthens the credibility and transparency of every evaluation through Factual Review, Appeal Procedures, Evaluation Ethics, and Conflict of Interest Prevention.
Our Commitment to the Future
The environment surrounding corporations and public institutions will continue to evolve.
SEC will continue to advance its Responsible Management evaluation system in response to these changes.
SEC does not conduct evaluations merely for the sake of evaluation.
SEC does not issue ratings merely for the purpose of classification.
Our mission is to help organizations prepare for a better future through objective and meaningful Responsible Management evaluation.
Through continuous independent research, SEC will further advance the WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI) and contribute to strengthening sustainable growth and Responsible Management performance across corporations and public institutions.
Guided by objectivity, independence, and professionalism, SEC will continue to grow as a Responsible Management evaluation institution trusted by the international community.
